We’ve been asked why the Town of Milton Republican committee did not endorse one of the incumbent justices and instead endorsed Steve Brown for the position. We did not take this decision to move away from an incumbent town justice lightly. Frankly, after interviewing both candidates and comparing their qualifications, work histories and work ethic, our obligations to the people of the Town of Milton outweighed the comfort of endorsing an incumbent, and the choice was clear.
As a Northway corridor town, Milton reaps many of the associated benefits but has also realized an uptick in crime. Just last year, kidnapper Craig Ross was found in our town and arraigned in the Town of Milton Court.
The caseload of both non-violent and violent crimes has risen over the past several years, and we need a judge that will answer the phone and show up for arraignments, both in the middle of the work day and in the middle of the night; a judge that can make fair and timely decisions; a judge that doesn’t need to recuse himself from dozens of cases and primarily, a judge that carries their portion of the caseload.
The Town of Milton currently has two justice positions, one which is held by Judge Timothy Brown who is NOT up for election this year. Records show that he hears roughly more than 2/3 of the current cases in the court. This puts an undue burden on both he and our court system. Steve Brown can help fill the void in our court system making life in Milton a safer place for us all. As a retiree of the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Dept, Steve is a true public servant and has the desire and knowledge to serve our town with integrity and fairness and also has the time to devote to the position that it deserves.
The Town of Milton needs Steve Brown for Town Justice!
